Leeds United have officially announced South African legend Lucas Radebe as the club’s new ambassador.
Radebe is no stranger to the Leeds faithful. Beyond his contributions on the pitch, he has long been admired for his dedication to community upliftment. Over the years he has become a central figure in award-winning educational initiatives and anti-racism campaigns, earning recognition and respect both in England and back home in South Africa.
Radebe’s journey began in 1989 at Kaizer Chiefs, where he made 113 appearances and scored five goals. In 1994, he joined Leeds United, becoming an integral part of one of the club’s most successful periods in the Premier League.
By 1998, Radebe was named Leeds United Player of the Year and appointed club captain. Under his leadership, Leeds finished third in the 1999/2000 season, securing Champions League qualification. He went on to guide the team to the semi-finals of the competition the following year, cementing his place as a fan favourite.
During his time at Leeds, Radebe scored three goals, including memorable strikes in European fixtures against Partizan Belgrade and Spartak Moscow. On the international stage, he represented South Africa 70 times, scoring twice for Bafana Bafana and captaining the side through defining moments in its history.
