Liver Brothers Have An Axe To Grind With Sekhukhune

Liver Brothers Managing Director Amukelani Gazide says his side have an axe to grind with Sekhukhune United in their Nedbank Cup last-32 clash at the Peter Mokaba stadium.

It is a classic David vs Goliath match as Brothers are the lowest-ranked side in the competition, playing in the Mpumalanga regional league.

The MD reveals that he was surprised at how Ba Bina Noko refused them access to the match venue and that has fueled his side to want to do even better in the game.

Talking to the media on Tuesday in Polokwane Gazide said they are going to humble Sekhukhune who they had respected before Tuesday.

“I think they were supposed to teach us and give us a welcoming like TS Galaxy who gave us an opportunity,” he said.

“They played four games in Mbombela, they showed us the way they enter, the way things are done and how they put their jerseys in the dressing rooms because we don’t have a dressing room.

“We are playing on the gravel and we sit under a tree [during the game]. So we said to them [Sekhukhune] it’s fine as long as we are going to be 11 vs 11 but we believe because our boys are ready and hungry for this thing. They [Sekhukhune] are in Dubai they don’t need this thing.

“The problem is that they have one guy from home in their team coaching there. I think they told them about these people from Bushbuckridge but I told them that even if you get a sangoma, don’t get a sangoma that will put things in the ground.

“You must get a sangoma that can assist the boys because if you don’t get a chance to go into the ground, you won’t play.

“I told them that we are ready, even if they can open at 14:55 we are fine but I was disappointed in Sekhukhune.

“I didn’t think they could do this to us but other teams like Kaizer Chiefs said they are willing to help us but they [Sekhukhune] said no it’s not allowed, we are not going to allow you [inside the stadium]. We are children they were supposed to give us a tour.”

Gazide was also upset that the league did not organise an official press conference for them because they are minnows.

The 38-year-old is running the team from his own pocket with the help of other local business owners from his community of Kildare.

The average age in the side according to the MD is 25. Only three members of the squad are employed, others are in high school and the rest struggling with unemployment.
