  • A light aircraft crashed into the tuck shop at Hoërskool Alberton on Sunday afternoon.
  • Fortunately, the pilot and instructor escaped without injuries.
  • Teaching, learning, and the ongoing matric exams will continue as normal while repairs are made.

The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) has confirmed that a light aircraft reportedly crashed into a tuck shop at Hoërskool Alberton in Ekurhuleni on Sunday, 26 October 2025.

Circumstances surrounding the incident are still under investigation by the relevant authorities.

GDE spokesperson Steve Mabona says the pilot and the instructor who were onboard the aircraft reportedly sustained no injuries.

“The Department can confirm this incident will not disrupt schooling activities or the ongoing National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations,” said Mabona.

Parents have been advised to ensure that pupils bring their own food to school while repairs are being arranged.

The Department commended the school’s management, emergency services, and aviation authorities for their prompt response to this sudden incident.
