A 44-year-old Limpopo man was sentenced to life imprisonment on Tuesday, 24 February 2026, for the September 2023 rape of his 17-year-old daughter at a graveyard.

According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), the man lured his daughter to perform rituals at her grandfather’s grave in Matiyani Village and raped her on their way back home.

The daughter was threatened into silence and only disclosed the incident to her uncle’s wife in February 2024.

“The incident was reported to the local police and immediately transferred to the Giyani Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit.

“Sergeant Nomsa Katekani Macevele was assigned to investigate the matter, and through her untiring efforts, the 44-year-old accused was apprehended the next day, on 20 February 2024,” SAPS said in a statement.

Sergeant Macevele successfully opposed bail, and the accused was ultimately sentenced to life imprisonment by the Regional Court in Malamulele on Tuesday.
