Letoya Makhene

Letoya Makhene has candidly opened up about the emotional toll her past relationships have taken on both her and her children, revealing that she carries deep regret over some of the decisions she has made in her personal life.

Since the debut of The Makhenes on Mzansi Magic in April, viewers have closely followed the actress and musician’s family dynamics, with much of the conversation online centring around her romantic history and parenting journey.

Speaking during an interview with the channel, Makhene explained that the reality show was her own idea and said she saw it as more than just a television opportunity.

According to the former Generations: The Legacy actress, the series became a way for her to reclaim her voice after enduring what she described as a damaging public smear campaign following her highly publicised divorce from Lebo Keswa.

“Beyond it being a good financial opportunity and helping me get back on my feet after the first smear campaign against me shut down my work, it was also a chance to correct the narrative and allow people to decide for themselves, through my story, whether they want to love or hate me,” she said.

Her private life once again became a trending topic after reports surfaced that she was expecting another child, with the father of her baby briefly appearing in the reality show’s pilot episode.

Makhene admitted that her love life has not always reflected the balance she has worked hard to create in other areas of her life.

While juggling motherhood, music, acting and family responsibilities, she said she has had to confront difficult truths about herself and the impact of her choices.

“I am most disappointed in myself when it comes to my choices in partners, and I have worked too hard to establish balance. I am currently on a journey of self-discovery,” she shared.

The actress also acknowledged that some of her personal decisions have hurt her children, a reality she says continues to weigh heavily on her.

“That’s why it hurts so much knowing that some of my choices have affected them negatively,” she stated before adding, “I’ve had to, and continue to do the work to forgive myself for where I’ve gone wrong. They are my world.”
