CRIME BUSTING UNIT TO BEGIN IN MAY

Zimoja reveals that the Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi will unleash the Crime Busting Unit from Monday, 1 May.

The wardens completed a four-month training in basic policing and will be deployed to various crime hotspots across Gauteng as of Monday, 1 May.

They are to protect citizens, especially in townships, informal settlements, and hostels.

Lesufi added that he’s implemented 6 000 e-panic buttons, which will be distributed to community patrollers, and has tested their efficiency. The panic buttons will also be integrated into fixed street poles with CCTVs.

“We will arm our residents with panic buttons that will be linked to our law enforcement agencies. These panic buttons will also be linked to our CCTVs and our new state-of-the-art integrated command centre. Whenever they feel threatened, every resident will press the button, and it will register at the office of our law enforcement agencies,” he confirmed.
