Lessons from a flop, Kaze gloats, Feb fixtures

Today’s Kaizer Chiefs news wrap features lessons from the Ethan Chislett signing, praise from Cedric Kaze and fixture info.

Chislett signing provides a lesson for the Kaizer Chiefs board

One player destined for the exit door is playmaker Ethan Chislett; the 27-year-old arrived from third-tier English side Port Vale on 1 July 2025 but has yet to make his debut. Just because a player has played in England doesn’t mean he’s good enough for the technical level required in South Africa’s top tier.

Kaze gives Petersen his flowers after Kaizer Chiefs revival

After a string of half a dozen shutouts, Kaze is happy with the work done by Brandon Petersen between the sticks. He’s doing so behind a relatively settled defensive unit of Dillan Solomons, Zitha Kwinika, Aden McCarthy and Inacio Miguel. Thabiso Monyane and Paseka Mako have also featured in recent games, while Given Msimango is having to settle for a place on the bench as he wins full fitness back.

“I am happy to call Brandon Petersen the best goalkeeper in South Africa at the moment for what he has shown and the consistency he has had since the start of the league. But credit also to the rest of the team for the clean sheets,” Kaze told Thabiso Mosia on Radio 2000.

February fixtures on the horizon

Chiefs have a busy schedule in the second month of 2026. They’ll be hoping that Rushwin Dortley plays some part. The 23-year-old has yet to feature in the 2025-26 campaign, but that hasn’t shown in recent weeks. The Glamour Boys are on a stunning run of six consecutive clean sheets across all competitions, which has seen them emerge as genuine title contenders for Orlando Pirates.
