Lekgwathi Makes Bold Erasmus Claim

Former Orlando Pirates captain Lucky Lekgwathi believes that Deadline day signing Kermit Erasmus can be the answer to the club’s goal scoring problems.

The Buccaneers will face Mamelodi Sundowns in the first leg of their MTN8 semi-final at Orlando Stadium on Saturday with the second leg to be played in Polokwane three weeks later.

Pirates completed three signings on Deadline Day, with Erasmus, Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo and Sipho Chain joining the club – with in particular the return of Erasmus exciting the former captain.

“You know that’s where we are lacking most,” Lekgwathi told iDiski Times.

“Yes, the defence has conceded only three goals but where we are lacking is to score goals. So, we need someone to score goals for us and I think now we have an answer in Kermit.

“If he continues to play like how some of us know him to, he will solve our goal scoring problems.”

Lekgwathi says he is hopeful that Erasmus will quickly be included in Jose Riveiro’s starting XI but he also urged the coach not to make too many changes, because he feels that has been the Achilles heel for the club in recent season.

“For me I want to see especially a player like Erasmus to be in the starting line-up,” he added.

“I’m not sure who he will play with because Lepasa was doing very well and obviously he is a young boy and you don’t want to kill his confidence, just make sure he plays with Kermit and he will learn a lot.

“For me he (Riveiro) mustn’t change the team too much because in previous seasons we were losing games because of too much chopping and changing.”
