New Cape Town City striker Wayde Lekay has targeted a win against Stellenbosch FC in Saturday’s Cape Town derby.
The former TS Galaxy forward made his debut for City on Tuesday night against Maritzburg United, but wasn’t able to prevent the game from ending with a goalless draw, which was City’s first point of the campaign.
The 25-year-old believes the Cape Town Derby is the perfect chance to get their first three points of the season after starting the campaign with three consecutive losses and one draw.
“We have a Derby day that is coming on Saturday in Cape Town stadium. It’s an important one for us, the club needs the first victory,” he told the club’s media team.
“There’s no more motivation that we need for this one. I mean it’s a perfect stage to get your first win, it’s a Derby day.
“All the boys are excited, everyone is energised and ready for this encounter. It’s gonna be a good one it’s gonna be very intense, I feel it. This is our perfect stage to get our first three points of the season.“
In the history of this fixture, Stellies have dominated it, the total of six games have been played with the home side Cape Town City managing to only win twice and Stellenbosch FC taking four wins into the bag. This encounter has never produced a draw.
