Legendary maskandi group split again

LEGENDARY maskandi duo, Shwi NoMtekhala, is splitting after two decades of producing hit songs.

The two members have been at each other’s throats over their manager, Bongani Manyathi. Mediation by their families has apparently failed.

Their squabble started in November after the release of their new album, Wangikhulisa uMama, when their dancers said they didn’t want to continue working with Manyathi.

Mtekhala, whose real name is Zwelenduna Magubane, told Daily Sun: “Last year, I found out that a company called Siginci Media was distributing our music, but no one told me about it.

“The company registered our work, but we have our own company called Mtekhala noShwi Entertainment. Is our company a spaza shop?”

He said he decided to leave because Shwi and Khethonjani Dludla, who worked with them, didn’t agree with him.

“I talked to them and they seemed to hear what I was saying, but they then turned their backs on me,” he said.

Shwi, whose real name is Mandla Xaba, said Mtekhala made accusations without evidence.

“I don’t have a problem working with our manager. I will not allow myself to be used in issues that will put me in a crisis,” he said.

Shwi said Mtekhala’s decision to leave had cost them 11 bookings since December.

“I’m tired and Mtekhala has made us leave many companies we worked with in the past, saying we were being robbed,” he said.

But Manyathi said he decided to step aside as he didn’t want the duo to split up because of him.

“They should sit down and resolve the issue. Mtekhala has left with the dancers who are his relatives. If this is his way of saying thank you to me, it’s fine. One day, people will know the truth,” he said.
