Ferrari’s risky one-stop decision paid off to push Charles Leclerc to victory ahead of McLaren drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri at the Italian Grand Prix at Monza on Sunday.

In what was Ferrari’s 21st win at home, Leclerc crossed the line ahead of the McLaren duo of Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris who came second and third respectively to complete the podium standing.

Another Ferrari driver, Carlos Sainz, came fourth as Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton was fifth while title leader Max Verstappen of Red Bull settled for sixth spot.

While others opted for a two-stop strategy,  Ferrari had the bold one-stop decision and they will not regret it.

Norris started off in pole position but found himself behind Piastri on the opening lap while Leclerc and birthday boy Sainz then raced to the front later on after profiting from the one-stop strategy.

Tyre issues were a let down for Sainz, allowing Piastri and Norris to overtake him while Leclerc held on for a second win of the season and for a Ferrari home victory.

“It is an incredible feeling,” said Leclerc after the race as per Sky Sports.

“I thought the second time, if there was a second time, would not feel as special as the first, but the emotions over the last few laps were the same.”

“I want to win Monza and Monaco every year and I have managed to do so. It is so, so special.”

After starting fourth on the grid, it was a remarkable race for Leclerc who crossed the line 2.6 seconds before Piastri.

Verstappen is still in charge of the Drivers’ Championship although his lead was cut to 62 points by Norris.
