On 18 April 2025, the Grand Arena at GrandWest will come alive with the sounds of legends. Grammy Award-winning South African maestro Lebo M will take to the stage for his first-ever live concert in his homeland.
And he’s not coming alone. Joining him is his long-time friend and Oscar-winning composer Hans Zimmer.
LEBO M AND HANS ZIMMER ON STAGE
This is a celebration of African excellence, global collaboration, and a career that has shaped the soundtracks of our lives.
The excitement is palpable. So much so that the original venue, Artscape, simply couldn’t contain it. Overwhelming demand forced organisers to move the show to the much larger Grand Arena, according to Events In Cape Town.
Now, even more fans can experience this once-in-a-lifetime spectacle, with tickets ranging from R850 to R1,850.
Lebo M’s music is woven into the fabric of South African culture.
LEBO M’S CAREER
From his early days with The Power of One to the global phenomenon of Disney’s The Lion King,” his voice and compositions have become anthems of pride and memory.
“My music is – and always will be – rooted in home soil, and I couldn’t be more excited about staging my first live concert season in Cape Town,” Lebo M shared.
“The music from The Lion King not only touched hearts and minds around the world. It continues to provide an inspirational platform to uplift local talent and inspire the next generation of creators”.
LOCAL TALENT
Local favourites MiCasa will bring their signature house and soul, while the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra adds orchestral grandeur.
The Soweto Spiritual Singers and the Ndlovu Youth Choir promise to raise the roof with their powerful voices.
Rising stars Nkosinathi Shabalala and Refi Sings will also grace the stage, representing the next wave of South African musical talent.
LEBO M AND HANS ZIMMER’S FRIENDSHIP
Hans Zimmer, who has worked with Lebo M for nearly 40 years, is just as thrilled. “I am thrilled that we have been partners, brothers, and friends since childhood.
We began our journey creating films about Africa at a time when few were willing to do,” Zimmer said.
For Zimmer, this concert is a “homecoming of spirit”—a return to the continent that inspired some of his most powerful work.
MUSICAL MAGIC
Expect a night filled with nostalgia, emotion, and pure musical magic. Fans will be treated to classics from The Power of One, The Lion King, and even music from Lebo M’s upcoming projects.
