Learners from a Western Cape school claim they received an ancestral calling on Friday.
The Immaculata Girls High School in Wynberg, had to be evacuated as a result as the schoolgirls reportedly fell violently ill.
According to the Western Cape Education Department, this was the second school to have reported similar occurrences.
In February Portlands High School learners also claimed they received a calling from their ancestors.
However, the school issued a statement that the incident had been blown out of proportion.
Panic arose at Immaculate Girls High after several learners started vomiting and shouting uncontrollably.
Classes were disrupted and parents were called to collect the schoolgirls.
Affected and unaffected learners will be receiving counselling as the incident is said to have been deeply traumatic.
Teachers put a stop to learners who were trying to take videos of the learners who claim they received the ancestral calling.
Sources say, one Grade 8 learner displayed symptoms of vomiting before it spread to others in the classroom.
The Western Cape Education Department has not specified what interventions were adopted by both schools but stressed that no ancestral calling is identical.
Learners were sent home to discuss ritualistic practices and beliefs with their parents and families.
