Le Roux Earns Massive Praise In Sweden As Next Step Awaits

Bafana Bafana midfielder Luke Le Roux has earned massive praise in Sweden as the next step of his career is on the horizon.

Le Roux, 23, joined the Varbergs BoIS in 2020 from SuperSport United and over the past three years he’s developed into one of the leading performers in the Allsvenskan.

It’s showcased by wearing the captain’s armband this season and often being described in Swedish media as the ‘star player’ of the team as he continues to pull the strings for the modest club as a deep-lying playmaker.

“Of course, we 110 percent want to keep him [until the end of the season],” head coach Joakim Persson told Hallands Nyheter.

With Le Roux now fully established as a senior South Africa international and likely to form part of Hugo Broos’ squad heading to the Africa Cup of Nations in January, naturally, interest will rise in his services over the coming months.

There’s been talk of clubs, in Sweden, Belgium and the Netherlands monitoring the player who hails from the Cape Winelands, Stellenbosch, and while his contract is in the final five months ahead of the transfer window that opens on 1 July, they are hoping they can hold on to his services due to the key role he holds in the squad.

“There is more or less always a price… [and if it’s a club] Luke [considers] would be a fantastic opportunity, then you have to evaluate it accordingly,” the former Sweden international midfielder explained.

“But I don’t think it will be like that. He is such a good player that I am surprised that he has not been sold earlier. He’s perhaps the best player who has been in Varbergs Bois during my time.”

Le Roux is closing on his 100-appearance milestone with the club, but if Persson’s words are anything to go by, he’s likely headed for bigger and better things in the near future.
