FIFA has announced the latest world rankings ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, with Bafana Bafana climbing one spot.
Hugo Broos’ men beat Sierra Leone (4-0) and Botswana (1-0) during the recent international break, leading South Africa to climb from 68th into 67th position.
However, on the continent, Bafana remained only in 12th spot, while Africa Cup of Nations winners Senegal are the highest ranked CAF nation in 18th position overall.
Morocco (22) and Tunisia (30) complete Africa’s top three in the FIFA rankings ahead of Nigeria (32), Algeria (37) and Egypt (39).
Cameroon (43), Mali (46) and Ivory Coast are the other three African teams inside the world’s top 50 ranked nations, while Burkina Faso (54) and Ghana (61) are also ahead of South Africa.
Overall, Brazil will enter the World Cup as top-ranked nation, followed by Belgium and Argentina, while 2018 FIFA World Cup champions France follow in fourth spot ahead of England.
Italy, Spain, Netherlands, Portugal and Denmark complete the top 10.
