Larsen – It’s Great To Be On The Top End Of The Table

Ahead of their Nedbank Cup game against Black Eagles, Summerfield Dynamos coach Clinton Larsen has expressed how he vowed to never take another job with a team at the bottom of a table.

While he had relative early success as Bloemfontein Celtic and Golden Arrows coach, prior to this job, Larsen had suffered relegation with his last two teams, Polokwane City (from the Premiership) and Bizana Pondo Chiefs (from the GladAfrica Championship).

Larsen turned down GladAfrica roles last season and chose to join the lower tier Chatsworth side, and he has already enjoyed success this season, as Dynamos wrapped up the KwaZulu-Natal ABC Motsepe League, and will be heading to the playoffs hoping to be promoted to the GladAfrica Championship.

Larsen was asked by iDiski Times journalist Rob Delport, what this season has been like personally for the coach.

“Ja, Rob, especially after the last two teams I’ve been at, and that’s why I vowed never to take another job at teams at the bottom of the table,” Larsen replied.

“You know there’s so much damage control to do and so many problems, teams that are at the bottom have, that sometimes you do need miracles to turn things around.

“But nevertheless, it’s great to be on the top end of the table. You know, it hasn’t been easy because there are some good teams at this level.”

Larsen says the ABC leagues are full of former professional players, and that is across the country. With the playoffs featuring all regional champions, Larsen has been researching potential opponents.

“I think so many of the teams also have ex PSL players, NFD players in their squads,” he continued.

“I’ve just done a bit of research, and some of the teams BCM in Eastern Cape, Celtics Colts that are top of theirs’ in the Free State, just to name a few.

“And they all loaded with ex PSL players. So you know, the level of the league is improving. But for me, it’s just great, great to be competing for titles.

“It’s a project that I believed in from day one, and it’s a project that I’m fully committed to. I hope that me coming to Summerfield Dynamos is just the beginning of big things.”

The two ABC sides will battle it out for a Nedbank Cup last eight spot on Sunday afternoon.
