Lamiez Holworthy sets record straight about her father, Chicco Twala

Lamiez Holworthy-Morule has finally addressed the long-running curiosity surrounding her relationship with legendary musician Sello Chicco Twala.

The truth came to light after the pair’s dance video went viral, surprising many fans who didn’t know they were related.

During an interview with DJ Fresh on the WAW What A Week podcast on 31 January 2025, the DJ and TV personality explained how the public first learned that Chicco is her biological father.

She said the speculation began after she shared photos from her son Leano Laone’s Christening, where Chicco was among the invited guests.

A seemingly innocent picture of them together quickly sparked wild theories online, with people questioning whether they were uncle and niece, cousins, or even involved romantically.

Lamiez, who is married, revealed that she once predicted this kind of misunderstanding. She recalled a day they spent together in Melrose, one of Johannesburg’s affluent suburbs, and how strangers looked at them suspiciously.

“My dad gets calls, ‘Hi, we’d like to confirm whether or not you’re having an affair with DJ Lamiez.’ We were spotted in Melrose, just the two of us, and I said to him, ‘Papa, the way these people are looking at us, they’ll assume that we’re dating.’ But he dismissed me.”

Things escalated when people began contacting her mother to confirm the rumours.

That was when Lamiez decided to take control of the narrative and post a picture with Chicco, publicly setting the record straight.

She also revealed that DNA tests proved their bond beyond doubt.

“That’s my dad, such a cool guy. I am so blessed to get to connect with him now.”

Reflecting on their journey, Lamiez acknowledged the pain of growing up without him but believes everything unfolded as it was meant to.

“As painful as it was not growing up with him, and going through what I did knowing he would have helped, I don’t think I would have been who I am if things were any different.”
