South African DJ and radio host Lamiez Holworthy has finally spoken out about a TikTok stylist, known as Rural Zulu Girl Stylist, who many believe closely resembles her. The stylist has gone viral for mimicking Holworthy’s signature style, from outfits and haircuts to tattoos.

The resemblance sparked a wave of comments online, with fans noting the striking similarities between the two women. While some saw it as flattering, others raised concerns over the stylist’s harsh responses to these observations, including the use of profanities.

LAMIEZ HOLWORTHY SHARES HER SIDE OF THE STORY

In a Facebook post, Lamiez Holworthy explained she had been aware of the mimicry since 2020 but initially chose to ignore it.

She wrote: “Good evening my love. I’ve tried by all means to ignore it because I honestly thought it was innocent. It creeped me out a bit but overall, I found it flattering. I only got my first big TV show in 2019, but I had my signature haircut and tattoo sleeve in 2017, long before this started.”

She clarified that her issue isn’t imitation itself, but the stylist denying it and swearing at people who mention Holworthy.

LAMIEZ HOLWORTHY ENCOURAGES POSITIVE SPACES

Holworthy highlighted the importance of women supporting one another: “It’s humbling and reassuring that we’re taking up more space. Let it be spaces that are positive and uplifting, where women celebrate each other without trying to compete or erase one another. There’s enough room for all of us to shine.”

She urged the public to consider timelines when looking at posts online: “Please kindly pay attention to the dates. My concern isn’t being mimicked; it’s being denied and insulted while being accused of copying.”

PUBLIC REACTIONS

Fans quickly shared their thoughts. Selaelo Lela Maifala warned: “Tjo as I go through Lamiez Holworthy comments I start realising how scary this is, reminds me of a movie called obsessed. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery but this… Yoooooh sick.”

Lebogang Gert added: “you might need to get a restraining order and whatever else you can against her, she’s mental and a danger. I went to her channel and saw that she enjoys walking around with people staring at her thinking she’s you, she’s not okay.”
