The training institution based in Johannesburg opened doors on Sunday and is aimed at developing and training local players and coaches with the philosophy and methodology of the iconic Spanish club.

According to the official statement from the club, it has branched out to build relations with the country, develop a new wage of talent and expand its global footprint in a nation known for its abundance of raw talent in football.

“RCD Espanyol are pioneers in the international academy sector, opening the first centre in 2014. With an average of 188 students in each centre, RCD Espanyol academies have their own teaching method that combines values (both on and off the field of play), a playing style and a learning model,” read part of the statement.

“The club, together with the local partner, create the appropriate context to develop a player’s abilities. At the same time as promoting talent in football, it also generates a sense of belonging and an affinity with RCD Espanyol de Barcelona.”
