Bafana Bafana international Fagrie Lakay has explained his ‘dance moves’ after celebrating his brace for Pyramids FC in their recent 2-0 win over Zanaco in the CAF Confederation Cup.
Lakay opened his account for the Egyptian Premier League giants last weekend, after having made the move from Cape Town City at the end of January.
Speaking exclusively to iDiski Times journalist Rob Delport, Lakay says he wanted to a bring a bit of South African flavour to his celebration.
“The dance moves?” Lakay laughed as he explained to iDiski Times.
“No, no, no, no, they don’t really dance this side. So I taught them the dance moves.
“I think being from outside, I just wanted us to do something that represents us back in South Africa. So that’s why I did the whole dance move.”
He says the language barrier hasn’t been too tough, as he understands basic Arabic and hopes to learn more, and in the meantime his teammates who speak English help him out.
“The language it’s different, but because I’m Muslim, I know most of the basics, you know,” he said.
“But also my teammates, very friendly, good environment in the team.
“So most of them they speak English as well so they translate for me. But I think in good time I would love to learn the language. I would love to speak Arabic one day.
“He has also spoke about all the messages from loved ones, friends and fans and says he really appreciates the support.
“Message to my family and fans – I miss them,” Lakay concluded.
“But ja, I’ve been getting lots of good messages from the people back home, and I really appreciate that, it means a lot to see that the people back home are supporting me.
“So l just want to say thanks for all the messages of motivation and all the support, I really appreciate it.”
