Lakay Absence From Gallants’ CAFCC Clash Explained

Pyramids forward Fagrie Lakay missed the first leg of the CAF Confederations Cup quarter-final against Marumo Gallants and is set to miss the return leg.

Lakay last played a competitive match when he featured for 60 minutes against El Dakhleya in the Egyptian Premier League.

The Bafana Bafana forward had missed six games, including the two CAFCC group stages clashes against Moroccan side AS FAR Rabat and their rivals Future FC before making his return in the Egyptian Cup against Al Ahly SC when he came in as a substitute in the 82nd minute and played through extra-time.

He then started the next game against Aswan SC and netted a brace, which pushed his tally to six goals this season.

However, the former Cape Town City forward was substituted in the following game against El Dakhleya and was left out of the Pyramids squad that drew 1-1 with Gallants due to injury.

According to a close source, Lakay will also miss the second leg in South Africa on Sunday because he pulled a muscle in his leg.

Pyramids are expected to leave Egypt on Wednesday for South Africa.

They need at least a scoring draw against Bahlabane Ba Ntwa or they will kiss the CAFCC good-bye.

The clash at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium will kick off at 6 pm on Sunday and Gallants announced entry is free.
