Nkandla – The Umkhonto Wesizwe (MK) Youth League in KwaZulu-Natal is asking the party to explain the role of the presidential task team. This follows a disagreement over who should lead the league in the province, with the task team not recognising leaders chosen by the interim committee, causing confusion.
Ladysmith – Members of the Klipriver Taxi Association in Ladysmith have asked Santaco to explain the association’s finances. They claim there are financial differences and report that one of their vehicles is missing. The association is already under the spotlight after the recent killings of its leaders and taxi drivers.
Stanger – A local hospital is in trouble after a case of alleged medical negligence. A woman was left with her intestines exposed and, despite her condition, the General Justice Gizenga Mpanza Regional Hospital allegedly refused to take her back, sending her home instead.
Nongoma – The film Zipped, co-produced and acted by Nongoma-born Buhle Khumalo, has won its third international award, this time in India. The film had previously won awards in the US and Greece and will have its South African premiere on 23 August.
Pietermaritzburg – Sandile Mbhense from UThukela has accused the provincial Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs of corruption in the hiring of community development workers. He has asked the Public Service Commission to investigate. He also claims there was corruption in the hiring for tradesmen aid positions in the Department of Transport.
