Sihle Mavuso presents the latest news from KwaZulu-Natal.

eThekwini – A 21-year-old suspect involved in the murder of Siya Mthethwa, the former VIP police officer and bodyguard of eThekwini City Manager Musa Mbhele, has been arrested in Umlazi. Mthethwa, 40, was shot dead at a shisanyama in Lamontville in March, along with his friends Merik Thringe and Nkanyiso Makhanya.

Verulam – The Women Pact Foundation plans to protest outside the Verulam Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, demanding that a 57-year-old soccer coach and Bible studies teacher, accused of sexually abusing over 40 boys in Waterloo, be refused bail. Pamela Padayachee from the foundation believes the suspect should remain in jail, saying children deserve protection. He faces five charges.

Newcastle – The ANC and IFP in Newcastle are locked in a bitter war of words over claims of nepotism by the IFP in the local municipality. The ANC accused the IFP of nepotism after an IFP member sent a voice note telling party members to send their CVs to the speaker’s office for job opportunities. The IFP fired back at the ANC, claiming that the ANC was twisting the message for political reasons. It said the invitation to submit CVs was extended to all councillors, regardless of political affiliation.

Mahlabathini – ActionSA provincial chairperson Zwakele Mncwango says his party still wants to rename eThekwini after the late Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi. However, Mncwango is disappointed that the IFP, the party Buthelezi founded, has not taken a clear position on this issue. He suggests the IFP may be avoiding the matter due to its coalition deal with the ANC.
