Sihle Mavuso presents the latest news from KwaZulu-Natal.

Pietermaritzburg – The KZN Unemployed Pharmacists Committee says the provincial health department and MEC Nomagugu Simelane are ignoring their requests for jobs. This follows a promise made before the elections during a sit-in at the department’s offices that the department would look for funding after the new national cabinet was installed. They also allege that the head of the department, Dr Sandile Tshabalala, is not responding to their plight.

Durban – The South African Emergency Personnel Union (Saepu) has defended Nehawu after ANC provincial secretary Bheki Mtolo blamed the union for poor ambulance services. Saepu reminded Mtolo that the Nehawu members he criticised were the same ones who nursed many during the Covid-19 pandemic and would care for him if his “mental illness strikes back”.

Adams – Residents of Adams, south of Durban, have started a petition demanding better water, electricity and rubbish collection from the ANC-led eThekwini municipality. They also want roads damaged in the April 2022 floods repaired and more police on the streets to combat rising crime.

Nquthu – King Sebatha, an MK party supporter walking solo from Limpopo to Nkandla and who wants former president Jacob Zuma to keep fighting for new elections to be held, is almost at the end of his journey. He has reached Nquthu, 200 km from Zuma’s home, and is expected to arrive in Nkandla by Friday to be welcomed by happy MK party supporters.

Pietermaritzburg – ActionSA in eThekwini opposes splitting the provincial legislature’s human settlement and infrastructure committee, saying it promotes “political greed and power-sharing” despite claims it will improve service delivery.
