Sihle Mavuso presents the latest news from KwaZulu-Natal.

Dumbe – The municipal manager of eDumbe Local Municipality, John Khumalo, died in a car accident on Wednesday morning near Vryheid in northern KwaZulu-Natal. Details are still unclear, but pictures from the scene suggest it was a head-on collision. The municipality hasn’t shared more information yet.

Msinga – The Ngubane family from Msinga Top lost their home after a veld fire spread into their yard and burned down their rondavel, which had a grass roof. Area councillor Doctor Myeza said unknown people started the fire in a nearby field. This is the tenth family affected by veld fires in the area since last month.

Ladysmith – A serious disagreement has caused the Klipriver Taxi Association in Ladysmith to close its offices. The dispute concerns members asking the provincial taxi council, Santaco, to account for missing funds and explain the disappearance of some vehicles.

Ulundi – National Union of Mineworkers members at Zululand Anthracite Colliery in Okhukho, near Ulundi, are continuing their strike for higher wages, which began last Wednesday.

Richards Bay – The City of Umhlathuze (Richards Bay-Empangeni) is one of only four municipalities in KwaZulu-Natal to receive a clean audit for the 2023-24 financial year. This is the tenth year in a row that the city has earned a clean audit, which is credited to strong financial management led by Mayor Xolani Ngwezi and his team.
