Durban – The Umkhonto Wesizwe (MK) Party has asked its members to gather outside the Durban High Court on Thursday. The ANC is expected to ask for permission to appeal the April ruling where it lost a copyright case against the MK where they wanted the party to stop using its logo and name, saying they belonged to the ANC. The high court dismissed the ANC’s case and ordered them to pay costs.
Ntuzuma – Political parties, teachers’ unions, and the Department of Education have condemned the killing of a teacher at Phikiswayo Primary School in Durban. The teacher was shot in front of students just before their Monday lessons. Teachers’ union Natu asked how many more teachers must die before the Department of Education improves school security.
Montclair – Durban police arrested a 44-year-old foreign national after finding drugs worth R565,000 in his Montclair home. The drugs included cocaine and methcathinone. The suspect was found packaging the drugs for street sale.
Nongoma – Violent strikes by learners at Ntshobane High School in Nongoma have disrupted learning at three schools. The learners were protesting against a teacher accused of sexual misconduct. They also blocked the P52 road between Nongoma and Pongola and demanded water from the IFP-run Zululand district municipality.
EThekwini – The ANC-run eThekwini Municipality announced that refuse collection has resumed in Durban after an illegal strike by waste collection employees. The strike left the central business district with piles of litter. The municipality has started a major clean-up operation to clear the backlog.
