Stanger – The ANC in KwaDukuza municipality has lost another councillor. Doeshiee Govender of Ward 28 resigned on Thursday. In his letter to the party’s regional leadership, he said it was impossible to continue “with no recognition for any deployment within the organisation.” It is believed that Govender was hoping to become the deputy mayor.

Durban – The South African Communist Party in KZN has called the accusations by Bheki Mtolo, the ANC’s KZN secretary, against the National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union (Nehawu) “shocking and unfortunate.” Mtolo said Nehawu members were responsible for the poor public services in various departments. The SACP said the accusation was like saying that Nehawu members commit crimes against humanity. The SACP added that strict measures have caused workplace crises.

Vryheid – The National Freedom Party (NFP) in Zululand has criticised the MEC for cooperative governance and traditional affairs, Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi, for reversing a decision that banned three IFP members from holding positions in the Abaqulusi municipality for a year. The NFP says Buthelezi is ignoring the Constitution regarding unwarranted interference in municipalities.

Shakaville – Teaching and learning have resumed at Tshelenkosi Secondary School in Shakaville, Stanger, after a violent protest by learners led to the suspension of classes. The learners demanded the removal of their principal, Mr Sibisi. Order was restored after intervention from the provincial education department and the police.

Kokstad – The Road Accident Fund (RAF) revealed that 41% of fatal crashes in 2021 were due to tyre bursts, and 8% were due to worn tyres. This information was shared in Kokstad, where the RAF and the South African Tyre Manufacturers Conference are promoting tyre safety education and enforcement across South Africa.
