Mtubatuba – KwaZulu-Natal police have arrested a suspect in the murder of Innocent “Killer” Mkhwanazi, a well-known IFP councillor in Mtubatuba and a member of the Mkhwanazi royal family. Mkhwanazi was ambushed and shot dead in July 2023 while driving with his bodyguards on the Mtubatuba-St Lucia road. The suspect appeared in court yesterday but has not yet pleaded.
Ntuzuma – Police have arrested six suspects connected to the murder of the ANC’s ward 53 secretary in Umzinyathi, Durban. The arrests were made early on Tuesday morning after a police operation found them hiding in Umzinyathi. A seventh suspect escaped and is still on the run, with police searching for him.
Ladysmith – Taxi violence in Ladysmith has claimed another life. On Tuesday morning, taxi owner Ten Ten Gamede was shot and killed. Gamede was a member of the Klipriver taxi association and served on the committee with Bhekuyise Masondo, who was killed with his bodyguard while driving in the town centre in October last year.
Pietermaritzburg – The DA in KwaZulu-Natal says the suspension of Sboniso Majola, the head of the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure, will not slow down MEC Martin Meyer and his team as they work on making important changes. The DA also welcomed the MEC’s promise to be transparent and fully cooperate with authorities investigating the charges against Majola.
Nquthu – A priest who also worked as a traditional healer has been sentenced to five life terms plus 30 years in prison for multiple rapes between October 2020 and August 2022. His victims were aged 15, 17, and 18. He falsely told them they were bewitched and needed to have sex with him to be healed. He also threatened that if they spoke out, they would not recover.
