Durban – Golden Arrows, a PSL team from Lamontville in Durban, is about to receive R11 million from the eThekwini Municipality. This deal is for promoting the city, with the team featuring the “Visit Durban” brand on their kits, stadium signs, and other promotional items.
Pietermaritzburg – The Department of Education is working with the Msunduzi Municipality to resolve payment issues that led to water being cut off at more than 15 schools. Water is expected to be restored next week. The department is also attempting to pay companies that supply food to schools, as some have threatened to stop deliveries due to unpaid bills.
Estcourt – Taxi drivers in Estcourt wore aprons to work to show support for women during Women’s Month and to raise awareness about gender-based violence. They promised to protect women at taxi ranks and in their taxis even after the campaign.
Inanda – The Inanda Anti-Crime Forum is concerned about the increasing number of deaths at the Inanda caves. People go there for traditional cleansing, but in the past three weeks, three unidentified bodies have been found in the caves. The forum is calling for improved security.
Westville – The Durban High Court found Anwar Mohamed Jeewa, a 64-year-old dentist from Westville, guilty of culpable homicide and other charges. He was operating an illegal drug and alcohol treatment centre called Minds Alive Wellness Centre without proper registration.
