Phoenix – Four security guards were killed and their guns were stolen in Phoenix, Durban, on Thursday morning. According to the police, four suspects jumped out of a Toyota Tazz and started shooting at the guards who were working in an office. Four guards died, and one was injured. The suspects took their guns and fled. The police are now searching for the killers.
Eshowe – An applicant who didn’t get a Community Development Worker job at the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs has asked MEC Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi to investigate the hiring process. Fifty people were hired in May.
Nongoma – Prince Mazwi Zulu, a supporter of Prince Simakade in the Zulu throne dispute, says he is being harassed by people claiming to be police officers. They have visited the KwaMinyamanzi royal house twice, looking for him but refusing to show identification or meet with him and his lawyers. He suspects this might be linked to the ongoing kingship dispute.
Newcastle – ActionSA has appointed Zwe Nxumalo to replace Mzwakhe Mbatha as a councillor in Newcastle. Mbatha was fired last month after a dispute with his driver over alleged misuse of his official car. Nxumalo, sworn in today, will likely take over Mbatha’s role as chief whip of the council.
Bergville – Premier Thami Ntuli has promised to establish a women’s fund to empower women. He made this announcement in Bergville today at a women’s parliament gathering. Meanwhile, DA leader John Steenhuisen will address a Friday gathering in Bluff, Durban, for Women’s Day.
