Pietermaritzburg – Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi, the MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, has warned residents of possible flooding in KwaZulu-Natal. As snow in some areas begins to melt, water from the Drakensberg mountains could cause rivers to overflow. Buthelezi advised parents to keep children away from rivers and dams during the school break.
Wentworth – Security guards at King Dinuzulu Hospital in Durban are concerned about losing their jobs since a new security company took over. They’ve been asked to reapply and take tests, and some who failed the test have already been dismissed.
Stanger – Preparations are in full swing for the Shaka Day commemoration on Tuesday in KwaDukuza. King Misuzulu will lead the Zulu nation in remembering King Shaka, who founded the Zulu Kingdom in 1816. Zulu regiments and maidens will attend the event, and King Misuzulu is expected to give a speech in the afternoon.
Mtubatuba – The funeral of former Mtubatuba mayor and IFP provincial treasurer Qhina Mkhwanazi showed rare unity between the IFP and ANC. Senior ANC leaders, including Dr Zweli Mkhize, attended the service, demonstrating cooperation between the two parties.
Hlokozi – Seven members of the Khambule family, who were murdered while watching TV, were laid to rest over the weekend. Acting Premier Thembeni kaMadlopha-Mthethwa urged the community to assist the police in finding the killers and were concerned about rising violence in the province.
