Maphumulo – The two-year partnership between the ANC and EFF in the Maphumulo municipality has ended. As a result, EFF speaker Sne Chili has been replaced by ANC councillor Simphiwe Shange. The EFF-ANC coalition was formed in 2022 when the EFF left its coalition with the IFP and joined forces with the ANC. Now that it’s over, the ANC is looking to the IFP for support.

Pietermaritzburg – The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Public Works and Infrastructure is planning a trip to the Western Cape and other provinces to learn how to make use of old and abandoned buildings. MEC Martin Meyer announced this during the department’s budget meeting, saying they hope to turn these buildings into money-making projects as the department faces budget cuts.

Nkandla – Leaders of the Umkhonto Wesizwe (MK) party’s youth league in KwaZulu-Natal are supporting the MK presidential task team, rejecting claims from a faction that says the task team is interfering with youth matters. Leaders from nine KZN regions, including eThekwini, praised the task team’s efforts to bring order to the league.

KwaMashu – The government is hosting this year’s National Men’s Day Against Gender-Based Violence in KwaMashu township in Durban. KwaMashu, along with Inanda, is known for having many GBV cases. The event aims to raise awareness and encourage victims to speak out.

Eshowe – The Eshowe Regional Court has sentenced Siphiwe Kweyama, 28, to life in prison plus 15 years for robbing and killing a woman while pretending to be a police officer. The crime happened in 2018 at Sundumbili in Mandeni, where Kweyama robbed the woman of her cellphone at gunpoint before shooting her and fleeing with friends.
