Vryheid – Simanga Zwane, a well-known community activist and a member of the EFF, was shot dead last night at his home by an unknown gunman at around 9pm. Zwane was known for taking up community issues and staging protests.
Dumbe – The National Freedom Party has cancelled suspension letters sent to eThekwini Deputy Mayor Zandile Myeni, Nongoma Mayor Mshangane Ndabandaba, and 10 councillors. This decision comes after a judge had issues with the legal process. The party will send new letters to address the alleged “misconduct”.
Port Shepstone – There are growing divisions in the uMkhonto Wesizwe party. An open letter from the Ugu region stated they will no longer take instructions from the interim leaders, Thobani Zuma and Dr Kwazi Mbanjwa. They are waiting for former president Jacob Zuma to appoint new provincial leaders. They feel the current leaders are too busy with other matters.
Pietermaritzburg – King Misuzulu KaZwelithini will officially open the KwaZulu-Natal legislature on Tuesday, continuing a long tradition. Premier Thami Ntuli will give his first State of the Province address (SOPA) on Wednesday in Pietermaritzburg.
Ladysmith – The provincial Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs is concerned about the lack of progress in the Uthukela district municipality, which has been under administration for six years. Madoda Khathide from the department introduced the new administrator, Dr Vusi Mthembu, who replaces Nathi Madondo.
