Pietermaritzburg – Local cleaning businesses are upset after the Department of Economic Development, Tourism, and Environmental Affairs gave 12 out of 16 cleaning contracts to one company, Oxyzone Suppliers CC, earning them over R10-million. The other four contracts were awarded to Sukuma Uzame Trading.

Amaoti – The EFF has raised concerns about poor policing in Amaoti, Inanda, Durban. EFF MP Hlengiwe Mkhaliphi revealed that only four police officers with one van are in charge of policing an area with around 150,000 people, where an average of six people are killed each day.

Umzumbe – The ANC has replaced the former deputy mayor of Umzumbe municipality, Mhlengi Luthuli, with Sinqobile Mkhize, who is visually impaired. This comes after Luthuli refused to leave his position in July as part of a power-sharing deal with the IFP.

eThekwini – The Umkhonto Wesizwe (MK) party in eThekwini says some members of the EFF’s labour desk have left to join their party. The Jacob Zuma-led MK party plans to introduce the new recruits at an event in Durban. The EFF labour desk focuses on helping workers with their issues across the province.

Phoenix – Dr Imran Keeka, the DA’s health spokesperson, said the problem of bodies piling up in KwaZulu-Natal mortuaries, as reported by the media, is limited to a few locations. He explained that the Department of Health is responsible for post-mortems and storage, but delays happen when the SAPS, DNA sampling laboratories, and municipalities don’t complete their tasks on time.
