Durban – The eThekwini municipality council has tasked the city manager, Musa Mbhele, with taking action against his two deputies, Dr Musa Gumede and Sipho Cele, for breaching the municipality’s recruitment policy. This was after it was found that Gumede and Cele appointed Rose van Heerden as head of the city’s health unit even though she doesn’t have the MBChB or NFQ8 qualification in public health required for the position.
Babanango – The death toll in the attack of a Sibiya family in Babanango in Ulundi on Monday has risen to three. This is after a third member of the family died in hospital last night. The Sibiya family was attacked by unknown men on Sunday, and two family members were shot dead while looking for their father. Other family members survived the attack but were left with injuries.
Dannhauser – The Dannhauser municipality has initiated a legal process to obtain eviction orders against companies that signed leases to use its farms in 2020 but later failed to pay annual rent for three years. The companies now owe the municipality millions in unpaid rent. It has been alleged that one of the companies even allowed a third party to build a mansion on one of the farms owned by the municipality.
Ulundi – The Buthelezi clan of Mahlabathini in Ulundi will conduct an ihlambo ceremony on Saturday at the home of the late Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi. The ceremony, held at KwaPhingangene palace in Nkonjeni, would be one of the last rites to be performed as part of mourning Buthelezi, who passed away in September last year aged 95. Zulu regiments are expected to play a significant role in the ceremony, which will start with a hunting expedition.
Eshowe –The Umlalazi municipality has undertaken to work with other government departments to help locals become competitive traders in the multimillion-rand spaza in the area and eventually wrestle control of the sector from dominant foreign nationals. To achieve this, the municipality will pump in funds, training, and other forms of continuous support for locals. This was said by the mayor, Queen Xulu, when she met with spaza owners in Eshowe on Wednesday.
