Five people, including two young girls aged two and six, were killed in a stabbing spree in the Bethany area of Bergville, KwaZulu-Natal.
The suspect, believed to be a family member, is still on the run.
Police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda confirmed that the victims include two children, a woman with a disability, and an elderly woman who was visiting the home.
Two family members, the suspect’s mother and a four-year-old girl, survived the attack with multiple stab wounds.
Netshiunda also mentioned that the suspect’s sister managed to escape with her one-year-old baby.
The suspect had several past domestic violence cases filed against him, but these were voluntarily withdrawn.
Investigations into the exact ages of the victims are ongoing.
