The KwaZulu Natal Education Department is concerned about the impact rolling power cuts are having on schooling.
The department says not only does it affect children’s ability to learn at school, it’s also having an impact on their exam preparation at home.
KZN Education MEC Kwazi Mthethwa said, “at some point this year our national minister was engaging with Eskom to try and see if they’re able to time their schedule in line with the exams timetable.”
“So we are hoping that those discussions are going to give immediate results so that load-shedding doesn’t affect us badly.”
“We’ll depend on solar panels and generators, but we are alive to the reality that not all schools can afford this. We are greatly affected by load shedding. We hope it will come to an end soon.”
