KZN Cop killer sentenced to 22 years behind bars
A man who has pleaded guilty to the murder of policewoman Nokuthula Somani has been sentenced to 22 years in jail.
Twenty-four-year-old Siyabulela Mbhele was sentenced in the Pietermaritzburg High Court on Tuesday.
The 55-year-old sergeant was shot and killed in her Umzimkhulu home in July.
Mbhele was later arrested by the Hawks.
In his plea, Mbhele says he was contacted by a traditional healer and was tasked with finding a hitman.
He says once he found one, the two were sent to kill Somani for R60 000.
Mbhele claims the traditional healer told them she was practising witchcraft and was linked to multiple murders.
Somani’s sister, who has also been arrested, is expected to appear in court in September.
