Kwesta marks major career milestones

Veteran South African rapper Kwesta is marking a major milestone as his groundbreaking 2016 double album, DaKAR II, celebrates its 10th anniversary.

To honour the iconic release, Spotify and Sony Music Entertainment are hosting a live celebration in Randburg, Johannesburg, spotlighting both the album and the rapper himself.

In a conversation with Spotify, Kwesta reflected on the album’s enduring success and the gamble behind its creation.

“We were blessed to be at the same time, together, making that thing,” he said, crediting the team who worked on DaKAR II for the project’s lasting impact.

The album’s streaming numbers have surged, with listening figures in 2025 exceeding those at the time of release, underscoring its lasting appeal in South African hip-hop.

Kwesta, who released his latest album The Big Bro Theory in May 2025, acknowledged that DaKAR II’s success was more than luck, it was the result of timing, collaboration, and a shared vision.

The celebration event will bring fans, collaborators, and industry figures together to honour a release that continues to influence South African music a decade after its debut.
