Koller Sends Message To Sundowns As Ahly On Brink Of CAFCL Exit

Al Ahly head coach Marcel Koller says he hopes Mamelodi Sundowns will be fair and ethical in their remaining two games after they thrashed the Egyptian giants 5-2 to qualify for the quarter-finals of the CAF Champions League.

Sundowns moved to the top of Group B with ten points and while Ahly could reach the same number – Masadawana are superior on the head-to-head ruling.

Ahly will now need to beat Coton Sport away and Al Hilal in Cairo and hope Sundowns beat Florent Ibenge’s side in Sudan in order to have any chance of progressing to the last eight.

“I hope that Sundowns will play the next two games fair, as we know them, and the other questions I can’t answer,” Koller said when asked about their chances of qualification and whether he’s concerned about potentially being sacked.

“Congratulations to Sundowns, they earned their win today, we played a very bad first half and we came in the second half at 3-1, we wanted to take a risk to score goals to get back into the game and Sundowns then used the counter and scored more goal.

“It made our chances harder to get the draw. Sundowns played well – we were better in the second half but the first half was not what we wanted to play as a team.”

The Red Devils will now face the Cameroon Ligue 1 champions next on Friday the 17th of March at the Roumdé Adjia Stadium (18h00).
