Kodisang opens up on Moreirense switch

South African international Kobamelo Kodisang has opened up on his switch to Portugal side Moreirense.

The former Bidvest Wits attacker on Tuesday joined the Liga Pro outfit on a season-long loan from SC Braga.

The move ends months of speculation about where the 22-year-old will be playing his football in the 2022/23 campaign following an impressive 2021/22 season where he was one of the key players for Braga B.

Kodisang has been heavily linked with a move to Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs, but he has now found a new home at Moreirense, who were recently relegated to the second division.

It has been a rollercoaster month for the Rustenburg-born star, who was recently linked with a move to newly-promoted GD Chaves, but the deal collapsed after negotiations broke down at the last minute between Braga and Chaves.

Speaking to FARPost from his base in Portugal, Kodisang said he hopes to make the best of the opportunity and hopes things will work out for the best.

“It’s a move that needed to happen, and I just want to take things one step at a time in my career,” he explained.

“I hope there are bigger things in store in the future. All I want to do is give my best and hope my best is good enough for me and the club.”

He began his career at his boyhood club Platinum Stars, where he made his senior debut as a 15-year-old under the watchful eye of coach Cavin Johnson.

From Stars, the speedy winger joined Bidvest Wits before being loaned out to Portuguese third-tier outfit Sanjoanense. After a successful year with Sanjoanense, Kodisang joined Braga on a three-year deal.

He made 55 appearances for Braga’s reserve team, netting 16 goals in the process. Towards the end of the 2021/22 campaign, he made his senior debut in a 0-0 draw against Estoril Praia.

On the international stage, ‘KK’ has represented South Africa at all youth levels, including playing in the 2015 Under-17 Fifa World Cup, two Under-20 Fifa World Cups and he played at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
