Klate Defends Downs – iDiski Times
Former Orlando Pirates winger Daine Klate has come out in defence of Mamelodi Sundowns’ amid the recent talks around Financial Fair Play.
Earlier in the week a video by former Kaizer Chiefs dribbling wizard Jabu Mahlangu, where he claimed Sundowns’ dominance and financial power is making the league “unwatchable” and also kills Bafana Bafana”, went viral.
It has reawaken the longstanding debate whether FFP is needed in South Africa to regulate the spending power and Sundowns and their competitors.
The debate comes in the middle of Sundowns’ record-breaking 13-match winning run, which has seen them open a 19-point gap ahead of second-placed Richards Bay, who have played two games less.
However, Klate has come out and defended Downs, saying other clubs should focus on improving themselves instead of Downs, because the success of the Masandawana didn’t come overnight and was built on the right foundations.
“I think the rest just needs to catch up with Sundowns, if they dont then Sundowns must win every season,” Klate wrote on social media.
“The work and process they followed over the years took a lot of time!!! So credit for all the investing and the success is well deserved!!
“I think let’s leave Sundowns and start talking about what the rest must do to get to that level!!!! Some dont have training facilities how will success arrive?”
The Tshwane giants are edging closer and closer to winning their sixth successive league title, something that has never been done before in South Africa.
Downs are sitting pretty at the top top with a 19-points gap to Richards Bay, while their traditional rivals such as Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs are 24 points and 25 points behind them.
Klate, meanwhile, has been without a job after being relieved of his duties following a 1-0 defeat with Chippa United to Sundowns on match-day seven.
