King Buyelekhaya Dalindyebo of the Abathembu nation has warned that he will fight extortionists who threaten his people.

In a live interview on Thursday morning from his palace in Mthatha with Newzroom Afrika, the king made it clear that his people have had enough of being bullied and are ready to defend themselves.

“If they keep killing our people, we will fight back. If they harass our people, we will harass them, too, because we can do that as well. They need to stop harassing and killing for their criminal gains,” the king said.

“We want this to end now because their time is up.”

The king’s anger was sparked by Akhumzi Mareke, who claims to be the chief of Mthatha West.

Mareke, who has been accused of leading extortion activities in the area, held a community meeting on Tuesday to raise money to sue King Dalindyebo.

Mareke alleges that the king insulted and damaged his reputation by calling him an extortionist.

Mareke has denied the accusations of extortion, even though they have reportedly led to the closure of some schools and businesses in Mthatha.

He insists that, as an elected leader, he will continue to rule “until Jesus comes”.
