Khune Makes Chiefs Future Statement

Itumeleng Khune has said he has no intentions of ever leaving Kaizer Chiefs, and he is a Khosi for life.

Khune was recently represented the club at the launch of the 2022/2023 DStv Premiership season as captain, with Zwane later confirming he will continue to wear the armband.

The 35-year-old is the longest serving player in the DStv Premiership and said he has not given any thought to the idea of leaving Naturena.

“I don’t want to leave the club, I will never go anywhere,” Khune told the media.

“I’m a Khosi for life, I’ve been given an opportunity from development to the senior side. And I’ve been given the responsibility to captain the biggest club in the continent.

“So I wouldn’t be entertaining any ideas that I would want to leave in the future.”

Despite only playing one competitive match last season, Khune also insisted he is ready to challenge for the number one spot again this campaign.

“I just have to go out there, fight for the number one spot, it’s not going to be easy,” he added.

“There’s Bruce Bvuma, future Bafana Bafana number one. There’s Brandon Petersen, also knocking on the Bafana door. And I’ve been there. So we keep learning a lot from each other. And the competition is stiff and tight.

“So we just want to give Coach Arthur and coach Dillon a good headache. Because already we’ve played a couple of friendlies. And all of us were able to share a number of minutes.

“And obviously, for us, we had to sit down with the goalkeeper coaches and compare our stats from three seasons ago, we’ve been conceding a lot of goals.

“So now it’s important that we’re going to concede less and keep more clean sheets. And so far, so good.”
