Premier Soccer League chairman Dr. Irvin Khoza has made a special announcement about the Carling Black Label Cup during a press conference on Friday.
After recently introducing the new Carling Knockout Cup, which will start from 2022/23, Khoza confirmed the return of the Carling Black Label Cup.
However, the tournament format will change, with four teams set to compete in the tournament and fans can vote for four teams to take part in the competition.
“It is in the public interest that we announce all of the things the we’re embarking on as a league,” he said.
“I’m at this podium to announce a very interesting, exciting tournament.
“I want to welcome as I announce the competition the Carling Black Label Cup returns. Remember the Carling Cup was a winter competition, now it’s transforming to a summer competition.
“November 12 is the date that we’ve agreed to allow this competition to take place.
“Four teams will be voted in by the supporters, finals of the winners will be played on that day.
“A lot more details will be given in September.”
Khoza also confirmed the prize money for the the teams, saying all 16 can partake but only the four teams with most votes will actually play.
“Teams that are not winning the vote, will get R100,000 each for having been in draw,” he added.
“Winning teams [who will compete in the Carling Black Label Cup] are getting R2 million.
“It’s a once-off, it’s not going to be happening every year.”
