Khaya Dladla’s ex battles cancer

Mercutio Buthelezi has shared a deeply personal update about his health, revealing that he is battling a rare form of cancer

The former fiancé of Khaya Dladla opened up about his diagnosis, explaining that he was diagnosed in 2025 with Polycythemia vera, a rare blood cancer that has taken a toll on multiple aspects of his life.

“The most painful journey of my life… last year 2025 I was diagnosed with Polycythemia vera, a rare type of blood cancer. It has challenged me emotionally, spiritually, financially, and otherwise. Thank you all for your prayers and all kinds of support,” he shared.

Since then, Buthelezi has reportedly been in and out of hospital, with his condition presenting complications that have made treatment and clarity difficult.

According to a family member, doctors are still working to fully understand the illness, with uncertainty around the exact nature of the cancer adding to the strain.

The experience has brought moments of fear, with those close to him revealing that he has openly admitted to being scared as he navigates the unknown.

Despite this, his support system has remained strong, with loved ones continuing to rally around him during the challenging time.

Among those standing by him is Dladla, best known for his role on House of Zwide, who has publicly shown encouragement despite their past relationship.

“It has been a tough one indeed but you are doing so well with making sure you bounce back. We have spoken a lot about it and from where you were to where you are now, well done. You are strong, and cancer has nothing on you. God speed Shenge,” Dladla said.

The two were previously engaged in 2020 before going their separate ways, but Dladla’s message has struck a chord with many, highlighting compassion and support beyond romantic ties.
