Khanye – Sundowns Will Sign Maseko

Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye believes Mamelodi Sundowns will eventually win the race for Thapelo Maseko, just like it was with Sipho Mbule, Ronwen Willaims and Teboho Mokoena recently.

SuperSport United CEO Stan Matthews declined a first offer from Westerlo in Belgium recently, saying it was not enough to meet the club’s asking price for the winger.

It is not clear whether Westerlo will come back with a better offer after they were previously defeated by Sundowns with Mokoena.

But Khanye believes Sundowns will pay the top dollar that SuperSport will not be able refuse because these two clubs have strong ties, with 2022/23 DStv Premiership champions having signed closer to 20 players from SuperSport in the Premier Soccer League era.

“You become a better player when you are competing with the quality,” said Khanye, who was once the darling of Chiefs, having won the league title in 2003/04 and 2004/05 seasons under the late Ted Dumitru, on iDiskiTV.

“I’m definitely sure Sundowns is going to pay that money for that boy [Maseko]. If Chiefs and Pirates cannot sign Ronwen Williams, Mbule and Mokoena… I mean look at the age… Ronwen, yes his age, but he is still quality.

“Sundowns is going to pump up money for Maseko and the boy is going to join Sundowns and the boy will win trophies. He will even grow his game at Sundowns. So this matter is very easy.”

Maseko, who is having a great breakthrough season, has scored four goals and set up two more in 23 appearances this season for the Tshwane side.

The 20-year-old was part of SuperSport side that dented Kanye’s former club, Kaizer Chiefs’ hopes of finishing within the top three this season to feature in the CAF inter club competitions next season, beating Amakhosi 1-0 at Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Saturday.

Zwane, who played with Khanye, left the pitch under police escort as fans pelted him with objects. As he was escorted off the pitch, he was hit and injured by a police shield, which saw him post media duty with journalists after the game.
