Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye has picked his Premier Soccer League Team of the Season.
Khanye selected several players who were self-explanatory and needing little reasoning behind his picks, while others may surprise a few readers.
In goal, Khanye went with Williams and he picked Khuliso Mudau at right-back, while he selected AmaZulu’s Riaan Hanamub as left-back.
His central duo were Maritzburg United’s Bonginkosi Makuma and AmaZulu’s Abbubaker Mobara.
“I like the Maritzburg centre-back, Makume. He’s playing left and right, and very comfortable on the ball,” Khanye explains.
“Also Mobara from AmaZulu. I know he was not always a regular because of injuries but he’s a very good player. I saw him in a couple of games.”
In midfield, Khanye selected Sundowns trio, Teboho Mokoena, Marcello Allende and Neo Maema.
Upfront, he picked Junior Mendieta as left wing, and Khanyisa Mayo upfront, just ahead of Cassius Mailula. However, he somewhat surprisingly left out Monnapule Saleng and picked his personal favourite Thembinkosi Lorch.
“I know many people have asked questions why do I put Lorch, the never played so many games because of injuries but when he’s given a chance to play, he makes the difference,” he explained.
When asked for the Coach of the Season, his answer was clear: “Rulani Mokwena is my Coach of the Season”.
