Orlando Pirates are set to lock horns with AmaZulu in the MTN8 Cup final at the iconic Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday. FARPost looks at four key players who could influence the much-awaited encounter.

A new champion will be crowned after holders Mamelodi Sundowns were knocked out of the competition’s semi-finals by The Buccaneers.

Heading into the encounter, Pirates are a wounded side after losing one nil to rivals Kaizer Chiefs in the league in their last encounter.

Usuthu are high on confidence as coach Romain Folz finally registered his first victory in the South African topflight after nine attempts defeating Stellenbosch FC one nil also.

Miguel Timm

Orlando Pirates welcome back their midfield maestro Miguel Timm after serving a one-game suspension. Timm will be key in the Bucs midfield. His absence was hugely felt last week during the Soweto derby against Kaizer Chiefs. Chiefs duo Njabulo Blom and Yusuf Maart were bossing the midfield.

In his first season at the club, Timm has been consistent in his performances, leading to his becoming a regular starter for Spaniard Jose Riveiro. He had made 14 appearances in all competitions. For his superb displays, Timm was rewarded with a national team call-up by coach Hugo Broos.

Gabadinho Mhango

The former Bucs striker will finally face his former side after missing a league match against them last month due to suspension. Mhango has a point to prove after he was shown the exit door during the transfer window.

The Malawian has hit the ground running for Usuthu. He has featured in 12 matches in all competitions, finding the back of the net five times and providing one assist.

Monnapule Saleng

Orlando Pirates winger Monnapule Saleng in arguably the form of his life, has been advised by his coach Jose Riveiro to stay humble following a great start to the season at the Soweto giants.

The attacking midfielder has been in fine form for The Sea Robbers in the previous matches, especially in the MTN8.

So far in the league, he has featured five times and managed to score two goals, whilst in the MTN8, he has been on the rampage. He demolished holders Masandawana in the semi-final second leg scoring a brace and providing an assist.

Veli Mothwa

The Bafana goalkeeper will be one of the players to watch out for in the MTN8 Final. Mothwa has been on form for AmaZulu in the past seasons. This led him to be called into the national team.

He will be aiming to replicate his performances after his inclusion in the Bafana Bafana squad ahead of the FIFA International friendlies against Angola and Mozambique later this month.

Kick-off is at 6pm.
