  • Kenny Kunene has been reinstated as the City of Johannesburg’s Transport MMC following coalition disputes within the Government of National Unity.
  • Patriotic Alliance leader and Sports Minister Gayton McKenzie had threatened to pull out of the GNU if the ANC did not reinstate Kunene.
  • He was suspended in July after being found at the home of alleged contract killer Katiso “KT” Molefe but has since been cleared of any wrongdoing.

Controversial politician Kenny Kunene has been reinstated as the City of Johannesburg Transport MMC after coalition disputes between the Patriotic Alliance and other parties within the Government of National Unity, which is in charge of the dilapidated City of Gold.

His reinstatement was confirmed by Patriotic Alliance leader and former convict Gayton McKenzie, who is currently serving as Minister of Sport within the GNU government.

The Executive Mayor of Joburg, Dada Morero, also confirmed Kunene’s return.

This comes after McKenzie threatened to resign and pull the Patriotic Alliance out of the GNU if the ANC did not do “right” by Kunene.

Kunene was suspended from his duties in July after he was found at the Sandton home of alleged contract killer Katiso “KT” Molefe when police arrived to arrest the controversial businessman.

He claimed that he was accompanying a journalist who was working on a story at the time. Kunene has since been cleared of any wrongdoing following an investigation into his alleged involvement in criminal activities.
